Plans have been put forward to reactivate the historic paddle steamer Delta Queen (pictured). The 85-year-old Mississippi sternwheeler was withdrawn from service in 2009, when her Congressional exemption to the 1966 Safety at Sea Act expired. However, changes in Congress as a result of US mid-term elections have raised hopes that the exemption will be reinstated, allowing the Save the Delta Queen 2010 group to acquire and operate her.
