Greenisland was an unremarkable little ship, built at the Ailsa Shipbuilding in Troon and launched in 1901. With an open, exposed bridge in front of a tall funnel. she looked like many of the other coasters in the Irish Sea trade at the time. Her owners were Charles M. Legg & Son Ltd, coal merchants of Carrickfergus. She went aground in 1906, after which she was lengthened to 145ft, with a gross tonnage of 289.
