Vista nearly ready to go

The latest ship in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet has successfully completed her sea trials. Carnival Vista has a gross tonnage of 133,596 and will carry 3,954 passengers when she enters service in May, with an inaugural sailing from Trieste. Her summer will be spent in the Mediterranean, before she repositions to New York for two cruises. After that she will move to Miami, from where she will operate alternate six- and eight-day Caribbean cruises. Cuba seems to be the place to be, and although the ship is far too big for the Cuban infrastructure, her passengers will have Cuban-themed cabins and the opportunity to drink in the Havana Bar. The ship will feature what is thought to be the first IMAX cinema at sea. Other novelties include the 800ft-long track above the top deck complete with pedal-powered capsules, and Kaleid-o-slide, the longest water slide in Carnival's fleet. Construction of Carnival's second Vista class ship got under way at the Fincantieri shipyard in mid-April. That ship, not yet named, is to debut in spring 2018.
