Russian company achieves worldwide success

One of biggest the success stories of the Russian marine industry is Transas. The company is comparatively young, celebrating its 10th anniversary in international marine business in 2002. The company began in St Petersburg in 1990, and quickly went international, starting Transas Marine Ltd in Southampton, UK, in March 1992. According to Alexander Koukharenko, one of the joint founders, the company became rapidly established as a market leader in marine software and electronics within a very short period of time. Nevertheless, it could hardly be imagined then what global potential there was for the products and technologies. The original vision of developing advanced maritime software functionality to be used as much as possible on standard PC-hardware, has been well-proven, to the extent that Mr Koukharenko claims that his company now dominates the international marine market, and enjoys the status of technology leader in its niche markets.
