Constructed at Cammell Laird and featuring a capacity for 260 passengers and 27 cars and the scope to transport two HGVs of more than 7.5tonnes, the £6.2 million (US$8 million) double-ended ferry Strangford II has boosted service capability on the link between Strangford and Portaferry, Northern Ireland. The 0.6nm route across the Strangford Narrows, linking the Lough with the Irish Sea, forms a vital part of the transport infrastructure in County Down.
