Shock mitigation, whole-body vibration (WBV) and suspension seats have been popular topics in the marine industry for the last decade. However, there is still a lot for boatowners, operators and designers to learn about the practicalities of selecting and integrating shock mitigation solutions into a vessel.Shock-mitigating seats for marine craft are available in a range of shapes, sizes and intended applications. Any seat, or other mitigation chosen, should be suitable for the boat and intended use, and should reduce the risk of injury to As Low As Reasonably Practicable, or ALARP (1). Choosing the right equipment for any boat will be a compromise balancing many factors, including cost, size, weight, seat performance and especially injury risk.
