David Yaish, Wisair CEO, and the Zis-apel brothers founded Wisair in May 2001 as part of the RAD Group to develop a wireless communication chipset based on UWB (Ultra Wide Band) technology. Wisair is headquartered in Israel and has offices in the USA, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Wisair raised its seed investment in May 2001 and in April 2002, Wisair secured a $4.3 million first round of financing led by Apax Partners funds and including Tamar Ventures and the RAD-Bynet group. In October 2003, Wisair completed a $15.5 million Series B round led by Apax Partners' funds and including Vertex, RAD Ventures, Bynet Ventures, Tamar Ventures, NTT Leasing, and RAD and Bynet founders, Zohar and Yehuda Zisapel. The company has 45 employees. Wisair develops UBLink~(TM) chipsets and solutions based on UWB technology for high performance wireless communication. UWB transmits across extremely wide bandwidth (several GHz), using very low average power (~100μWatts). In contrast, traditional wireless technologies transmit across narrow bandwidth of up to few tens of MHz in higher average power (~100mWatt).
