Global Locate was founded in 1999 to develop indoor-capable A-GPS products for the worldwide cellular market. In March 2000, the company raised $10 million led by GC Investments. In October 2001, Global Locate closed its $12 million second round of financing led by Firsthand Capital Management and joined by GC Investments, along with the other first-round investors. The company has raised approximately $22 million to date and does not plan to seek additional capital. Global Locate has 55 employees. GPS works on the principle of triangu-lation, that is, you can calculate your location if you know your distance from several known locations. The "known locations" are the GPS satellites themselves, and the distances are measured by noting the time of arrival of the encoded signals from the satellites.
