Ten years ago it first became apparent that the growth in world trade was A being driven by China's imports of raw goods to fuel its manufacturing and export industries, and exports of containerised finished goods - the so-called China effect. Shipowners dined out on the resulting surge in freight rates during the fat years of 2004-08. Now it's time to pay the bill.
