A new maritime law to promote shipping is in the final stages of drafting in Bahrain. The new code is being designed to stimulate shipping business across the island Kingdom, which is already an important logistics and transhipment centre for the vast Saudi market a few miles to the west and other expanding consumer destinations in the northern Gulf.A Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications spokesperson said that the new code is now undergoing the last stages of revision and discussion with the appropriate legislative bodies and will mark a transition in the country's maritime framework.
