Q: Looking back to Q1 2020, how well prepared were ship/crew managers for the severe disruption caused by the Coronavirus pandemic?No-one could have been prepared really for the scale and duration of the pandemic, observes Wilhelmsen Ship Management president and ceo Carl Schou. 'Operationally, we quickly fell back to our business continuity plan that was applicable in the last influenza pandemic H1N1,' he relates, and with that as a baseline proceeded to build up new standard operating procedures to adapt to the fast-evolving pandemic. Even so, the company soon realised 'that the situation was on a much bigger scale than we first anticipated,' he adds, 'and since then we have continued to operate in an ambiguous environment.'
