Runoffs Determine Senate Balance of Power,Makeup of Key Committee

Under state law, he must once again face off against Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff on Jan. 5. Fellow Georgia Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler also heads to a runoff that same day against Raphael Warnock. With Republicans currently holding a 50-48 lead over Democrats in the Senate in the next Congress, the Georgia runoffs will determine the Senate majority. Vice President-elect Kamala Harris would be the tie-breaking vote in the chamber, so a 50-50 split would hand Senate control to Democrats.
