Bremerton-Olympic Navy Leaguers Celebrate Statue's Anniversary

The Lone Sailor statue on Bremerton's Waterfront recently turned 10 years old, and Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Navy Leaguers commemorated the occasion. To honor the anniversary, the council's Lone Sailor Committee held a ceremony on Aug. 26, with committee members Dick and Shirley Vlist, Tim and Denise Thomson, Steve and Deb Sla-ton, Dave and Diann Shafer, Doug and Lea Cook, Louis Mejia, Gary Gunderson, Ron Testa, and Carol Meteney attending. Navy League National President Bill Stevenson also visited the statue to commemorate the anniversary. The statue has stood at the Port of Bremerton Marina since 2009 to express appreciation to the men and women across the world in the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. The statue is about 45 feet from the southwest end of the Breakwater pier (closest to the ferry side). This location provides for maximum waterside viewing while still accessible from land on a public pier.
