The Atlanta Metropolitan Council held its 18th Annual Youth Awards Banquet May 5. Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Cadet Lt. Cmdr. Stephen Sasscer, of the Allatoona High School unit, was the 2011 winner of the JROTC Award.The council also presented U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) Cadet Petty Officer 3rd Class Ansley Odell, from 2745th Seabee Battalion, for its 11th Annual Sea Cadet Award. Odell is a student at Lassiter High School.The JROTC awards were presented by Council President Frank Campbell, who coordinated the dinner and was master of ceremonies, according to Larry Hamilton, the council's vice president for public affairs. The Sea Cadet William T. Schwendler Award for Excellence was presented by Campbell and William T. Schwendler Jr. The event was held at the Doubletree Hotel Northwest in Marietta, Ga.
