The House Armed Services Committee (HASC) in May took the first crack at the Pentagon's fiscal 2012 budget request, approving legislation that funds most Navy and Marine Corps spending priorities but questions plans to cancel the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) program.The authorization bill as marked up by the HASC totals $690 billion — $553 billion for the department's base budget, $119 billion for overseas contingency operations and $18 billion for the Department of Energy's atomic energy defense programs. The Defense Department's fiscal 2012 request is $671 billion, not including Energy Department programs.
