Countdown to SSC

The clock is ticking on a contract award for the Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC) as the Navy seeks to replace its decades-old fleet of Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) hovercraft used for ferrying cargo and personnel to shore in difficult landing environments.The Navy finally released a draft request for proposals for the SSC on March 1, months behind schedule due to what officials have said were administrative issues, and pledged in the Federal Business Opportunities announcement to release the full version later that month. However, as of press time May 13, no such document has been released in advance of a contract award scheduled for later this year, although the Navy insists there will be no delay to the program as a result.
