'Keeping the Depots Warm'

While the Marine Corps' main focus in ground combat vehicles is on its two top-priority future programs - the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) - program managers are hard at work ensuring that three vital legacy vehicles can continue to serve and survive until they are replaced. The three veteran vehicles are the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, commonly known as the Hum-vee; the AAV-7A1 Assault Amphibious Vehicle, which could be called the Marines' B-52 for its service longevity; and the Light Armored Vehicle, or LAV, a wheeled scouting and screening vehicle that demonstrated impressive lethal-ity in combat during Operation Desert Storm.
