At 17 years old and getting out of high school, I was looking at service opportunities, and the Coast Guard and Navy were primarily what I was looking at. I liked the size of the Coast Guard and the mission set, and I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve since. I have moved around a lot, and it's been a great opportunity. From up north in the Arctic on an icebreaker to down south in the Caribbean; from the East Coast up in Boston in the Northeast, out to California and San Diego, and returning to California now, it's been a great opportunity to see the nation, to see the people who we are serving and have an opportunity to possibly make a positive impact.
