The Home Appliance Recycling Law that went into effect in 2001 has strengthened the recycling measures for four items, namely air conditioners, CRT TVs, domestic refrigerators/freezers and washing machines.rnAs many as about 600,000 ton of home appliances are disposed of each year from general households in Japan. Due to the costs associated with recycling, including the costs for collection, transportation, processing ,etc. Most discarded home appliances used to be buried.rnThe Home Appliance Recycling Law that went into effect on April 1, 2001, intends to reduce waste by promoting the reuse of useful resources contained in discarded home appliances. The law aims at promoting the recycling of home appliances and creating a recycling society through the tri-polar cooperation of consumers, retailers and manufacturers.
