Other New Forms of Energy

Development is underway in Japan for a range of internationally pioneering technologies to significantly enhance existing energy efficiency and to put new forms of energy to practical use. Some of these efforts are described here.rnThere are vast reserves of coal scattered around the world. As such, it has been positioned as an important energy resource, believed to offer dependable supplies in the years to come. The Energy Application for Gas Liquid & Electricity (EAGLE) project promoted by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) is directed at the research and development of coal gasification technology for producing synthetic gas efficiently and economically from coal. The project is mainly directed at enhanced efficiency of coal thermal power generation systems and to reduce CO_2. Studies are currently underway at the pilot test plant with a 150 tons of coal a day prossing capacity.
