Behind the Crisis: Marx's Dialectics of Value and Knowledge

A new book concerning the deep and protracted crisis of capitalism is more than welcome, especially when it comes from one of the world's best-known Marxists. It provides a valuable political economy and philosophical framework for understanding what lies behind the crisis. As Carchedi indicates in his foreword, the root causes of the current crisis "should be sought in an economic system whose basic aim is production for profit, and that therefore requires human and environmental exploitation, rather than production for the satisfaction of everybody's needs in harmony with each other and thus with nature" (vii). In this exploration, the author relies on Marx's work, which, he believes, offers a solid and still relevant framework.
