Pollen Diversity and Pollination Calendar of Some Allergenically Significant Plants of Birbhum District, West Bengal

The present paper deals with the pollen diversity study of some allergenically significant plants of rural belt of Birbhum district of West Bengal and construction of pollination calendar to determine the occurrence of allergenic pollen grains in the surrounding atmosphere. A total of 34 highly allergenic plant species belonging to 22 families were recorded and their pollen morphological characters were critically examined. Among the 11 different apertural types tricolporate type showed their dominance over other types. Exine sculpturing pattern varies from psilate to reticulate type. A pollen key has also been prepared on the basis of the examined traits which serve as an easy identification tool for the allergenic pollen grains from palynotaxonomic point of view.
