摘要

Physical and Biological sciences appear to be two independent streams from the classical approaches and historical point of view. Physical sciences, in a sense, are forerunner of biological sciences. Further, biological sciences started more or less on qualitative approach and impact of physical sciences led to their development on quantitative basis. With furtherance of scientific knowledge the two broad branches became more and more linked and that was the initiation of multi-disciplinary approach in science. Schroedinger's 'What is life?' is perhaps the first documented literature in the area. Delbruck a physicist who turned to biology and quantitated biology has been mentioned therein. That book inspired a number of physicists to turn towards biology with quantitative outlook. There is no gross difference between living and non-living entities in terms of physical and chemical properties of the constituents, the molecules and macromolecules, the only difference being that macromolecules play a major role in the living system.
