Performance of some Planted Fruit Trees on Coal Mine Spoil in Singrauli Coalfields

Growth performance was analysed in seven fruit tree species planted on coal mine spoil in a dry tropical environment. The locally adapted deciduous tree species like Phyllanthus emblica and Zizyphus mauritiana were far superior to evergreen Mangifera indica and Anacardium occidentale on these coal mine spoils. The greater growth in tree species was accompanied by greater foliar N and P concentration. This was evident by positive relationships between growth parameters and leaf N and P concentration.
