Know Your English, Volume Ⅰ: Idioms and Their Uses

Lord Macaulay's "Minute on Indian Education" in 1835 and the subsequent "English Education Act" passed by the Council of India established English as the official medium of business in British India, laying the foundation for the teaching of western curriculum in Indian schools with English as the language of instruction. Sixty-five years after independence this continues to be the norm in most urban schools, and Wren and Martin's grammar book notwithstanding, Indian students continue being perplexed by strange idioms and homonyms that are often encountered in today's global village where English is progressively becoming the lingua franca of international commerce and industry.
