Eraka [Typha]: A Useful Wetland Weed

Eraka (Typha) is a well known yet less described wetland weed. This plant has a long history of human use as food and medicine. Eraka is an efficient bioaccumulator of some toxic pollutants including arsenic. Besides, it is often blamed for affecting the flow of water in water bodies and for spreading some diseases through its airborne seeds. Hence, it is upon us that how we can evaluate Eraka - as a neighbourly friend or a baneful foel.
