Towards crossvergence, micro-level approaches and critical perspectives: Introduction to the special issue on new perspectives on international management research

One can easily argue that international management has never been more important as an area of inquiry. Multinational corporations from the traditional Triad consisting of North America, Europe, and Japan as well as from emerging markets like China, India, Brazil, and Mexico have extended their international reach. These firms have millions of employees and directly or indirectly influence national economies and societies world-wide. Moreover, firms and other organizations that largely operate within the borders of one country are increasingly encountering issues related to international management, such as interaction with foreign business partners and management of a cross-cultural, international labor force. The ongoing globalization processes also mean that problems and challenges related to the management and internal functioning of multinational corporations (MNCs) are unlikely to become of less importance in the years to come.
