Viruses, worms, trojans and zombies, the already-long list of computer-borne threats continues to grow, as do their numbers. What was once a limited threat, affecting a few machines, has turned into a serious problem that can infect and affect whole networks in a matter of days. There had been occasional problems before, but usually as a result of injudicious programming, rather than deliberate malice. These incidents had little effect on most businesses, since their computing resources tended to be isolated mainframes rather than networked systems.
