Deception Networks are still new by comparison, but this space is developing at a rapid pace. While of these tools have only been around a short time, they are polished solutions that have a definite place in enterprise security programs.Predecessors to deception networks were commonly referred to as honeypots. Decoys allowed researchers to evaluate which tools and malicious software were commonly used during attacks. The logical evolution was to apply the knowledge gained to improve how organizations are secured. Companies began developing software that took honeynets to the next level, creating decoy systems that emulated workstations, servers, networking equipment, printers and other connected technologies to effectively trap malicious attackers in a "fake" environment.
