With large numbers of staff in many distant locations, leading from the front - as its president, David Tandy, sets out to do - is not straightforward. "The 3,700 people doing their jobs is what makes it work and you have to respect that," he said. His approach is to encourage and motivate the staff; "stewardship" is one of his watchwords - a word that he says does not have an equivalent in Norwegian. "I spent a lot of time getting across the idea of stewardship," he said, but it is an important concept with such a geographically diverse organisation.
