A colourful LCD screen that can be adjusted to sunlight - with a sunshield for exceptionally bright conditions - are the features of an upgraded Vecta direction finder. Made by ACR Electronics, the Vecta 3 locates all EPIRB, PLB and ELT distress beacons activated during an emergency and emitting a 121.5mHz homing signal. It also has an extra-sensitive receiver to detect weak signals and speed up the time search and rescue (SAR) teams need to locate crew members or passengers who have got into difficulties.
