The Eritrean Position

Djibouti is a client-state of France and the US - both have bases and troops there and regard their footholds in the Horn of Africa very seriously. In the event of an escalation France has vowed to respond and Eritrea would be faced with an over-whelming military force. In that scenario, Eritrea's foe, Ethiopia, could possibly re-open its war with Eritrea and invade from the south.
