Numerous breaches of waste management and general safety rules have prompted ICS and ISF to publish an environmental compliance guide for shipowners and ship management companies. Erring companies lack a "systematic approach to identifying and managing compliance, with environmental requirements a common failure, directly leading to shipboard non-compliance. Leadership commitment and a clearly delineated path of accountability to the top of the company have often been found lacking," the guide says.
