Armed men attacked a Vietnamese-flagged bulker in the Sulu Sea off the southern Philippines, on 19 February, killed one crew member and abducted six. The incident has sparked mounting concern about the rise of such kidnappings by pirates in the region. The attackers boarded Giang Hai at 17:24 as it was headed from Indonesia to Iloilo in the Philippines, according to the Regional Co-operation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre (ISC).
