Insurers have been told that they need to take a thought leadership role for the maritime industry over the rise in the use and threat of technology. Don Harrell, chairman of the Facts and Figures Committee for the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI), said the organisation and its members had a key role to play ir protecting the maritime sector from the threats of cyber attack. However, IUMI president Dieter Berg added that the increased use of technology on vessels presented new opportunities for underwriters.
