Calls for greater action on piracy in Gulf of Guinea

The level of urgency around the growing threat to the safety of vessels and crew in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG) has increased, with the four largest shipping trade organisations calling for a meeting with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the regional member states to bring in new steps to combat the issue. The chairs of BIMCO, INTERCARGO, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), and INTERTANKO met in Rome, Italy, as part of the round table (RT) of international shipping associations and agreed to call a meeting with the IMO and state governments to find a solution.
