Knowledge is power: Protecting ships in the Gulf of Guinea

The maritime security situation in West Africa's Gulf of Guinea (GoG) region continues to present a significant challenge for the international community, including shipping organisations. However, the combined France-UK organisation Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade - Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG) may be increasing its impact in the region. MDAT-GoG was established in June 2016, the fruition of France's and the UK's goal to establish an information-sharing and reporting construct for the GoG. Its ultimate aim was to assist commercial shipping and help deal with the enduring maritime security issues in the region.
