The allure of cruising to many might not be the snow-blasted Arctic. However, over the past 1 5 years a new type of cruise experience has emerged, one that revolutionalises adventure travel at sea and offers voyages of discovery. Daniel Skjeldam, CEO of Norwegian cruise operator Hurtigruten, confirmed this trend, "We can see by the demand for the vessel [MS Roald Amundsen] as we are almost completely sold out, that the world is more concerned about where and how they choose their holidays." Hurtigruten launched its first hybrid expedition cruise vessel, MS Roald Amundsen, in April 2019 and its sister vessel, MS Fridtjof Nanscn, in London in March 2020. An expedition cruise is like a traditional cruise, but that places more emphasis on shore experiences, excursions, and 'off-the-beaten track' exploration trips.
