The very first thought that comes to mind regarding jobsite safety is Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Check out their website at OSHA.com. There are safety and health guidelines there for every trade on any project. Contractors are aware that fines are imposed for overlooking safety precautions for workers on construction sites. We have all heard of trenches caving in on workers because of insufficient shoring and staging collapsing from improper erection. Inadequate specifications for materials, unqualified contractors and human errors are responsible for many jobsite injuries and fatalities. Proper training can help in all of these fields.
