MOE Facility Construction Slogs On

Despite near-biblical amounts of rain that fell on the Valley of the Sun during February, work continues on the $57.6-million Valley Metro Rail Maintenance of Equipment (MOE) facility, the largest single construction contract for the regional light rail system. The heavy rainfall forced a two-week construction delay throughout much of the facility. According to resident engineer Willie Chiang, the heavy rains have forced construction crews to dry the soil. "There is still too much water in the ground," Chiang said. "Tilling the fill dirt can allow the dirt to dry." Valley Metro Rail spokeswoman Daina Mann said the delay shouldn't cause concern.
