FUNDING EXTENDED FOR CASR

The South Australian State Government has extended its funding for the Centre for Automotive Safety Research CASR) at the University of Adelaide for another five years. CASR's research has been the catalyst for successful road safety initiatives, including the implementation of the default 50 km/h urban speed limit which is estimated to have saved 30 lives over the past five years, according to Minister for Road Safety Jennifer Rankine. CASR Director Professor Mary Lydon said that the funding allows CASR to develop road safety researchers of the future and to extend its collaborative programs with institutes in countries such as France, Japan, Malaysia and the United States. It will enable CASR to continue its work on crash scene investigations, travel speed research, driving while impaired and vulnerable road user analysis.
