Annoyance due to traffic noise has multiplied continuously in the recent past and affects to an especially high degree the residents of motorways and larger access roads. They not only suffer from the delivery traffic for shops but also from private transport. To steer traffic into manageable Channels and protect inner-city areas from collapsing highways and town bypasses are built in many places to relieve the traffic load. It is evident that residential areas adjacent to access roads need to be protected from increased noise. Noise barriers made of concrete have been tried and tested.
