Colonel John Lander Osborne CBE 1917-2005

John Lander Osborne's life was one dedicated to service. Having qualified at the Birmingham School of Architecture, he was commissioned in the Royal Engineers TA in 1939, aged 22. By 1940, he was in action in France and Belgium. In 1944, the Birmingham Post recorded the awarding of the MBE to Major John Osborne for 'gallant and distinguished service in Sicily'. The report also stated that he went to France with a Midland division and was one of the last to get away from Dunkirk. By the age of 27, John had become one of the youngest Lieutenant-Colonels in the British Army.
