The recovery task force, a group set up jointly by the RIBA and the Association of Consultant Architects (ACA), has issued a list of measures by which the government could amend the planning system to help kickstart the ailing building sector. Two of the proposed changes are, according to ACA president Brian Waters, 'no brainers' - restoring the system by which planning permissions are given for five years rather than the current three; and amending the Use Classes Order, to allow business property to be turned into residential accommodation.
