Last November it looked as if London's Battersea Power Station, derelict for 25 years, could be facing the wrecker's ball as its previous owner went bust. But following a sale earlier this year to a Malaysian-based consortium, Giles Gilbert Scott's old warhorse might yet have the last laugh. Time has been kind to the new consortium. What was once the wasteland of Nine Elms around the 39-acre power station site is now a massive development area, including the new US Embassy and an approved extension to the Northern Line.
