The Venice Architecture Biennale, when it is on good form, sets the tone for the whole profession, especially in the centrally-curated international section. This time round - its 13th iteration, which opened on August 29 - the director is the U K's David Chipperf ield whose theme 'Common Ground'tries to break away from the usual architectural showmanship by encouraging notions of collaboration and 'civitas'.
