Invitation to historians: An intellectual self-portrait, or the history of a historian

Invited to present my views on historical thought and writing, I have tried to tell the story of their development, an intellectual autobiography that notes the importance of four milieux - Singapore, Oxford, Sussex and Cambridge - as well as the way in which my views have developed in dialogue with friends and colleagues.
