The disclosed invention is a new cleaning and surface preparation method for improving adhesion of paints, coatings, leather, or composites to the surface of plastics or composites. Components such as molded covers, steering wheels, etc. have parting/release agents/lubricants to improve manufacturability of the individual sub-components. These agents/lubricants must be removed prior to assembly to other components (adhesives, paints, colorants, coatings). This is accomplished by a reactive agent, i.e. gas/vapor/other material. Through reactive chemical means of consumption of material, i.e. agents/lubricants, the chemical composition is changed and removed from the surface of the component.
