Optical measurements based on fluorescence imaging of biological samples are affected from both, instrument to instrument variations and aging of an individual instrument itself. Even effects due to contamination which depend on the environmental conditions need to be considered. In general, this applies to all relevant submodules like light source, illumination optics and detection optics.
