Ignoring Privacy Act Can Doom E-Government

Developers of federal government programs tied to a Web interface are touting the increased efficiencies gained by offering services online. However, agencies that ignore government privacy laws run the risk of losing customer trust and can damage the reputations of these programs, an official with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) told attendees at the e-Gov 2001 conference July 10 in Washington, D.C.
